TWO SALARIED PHD POSITIONS IN MACHINE TRANSLATION AT DUBLIN CITY
UNIVERSITY - Marie Curie ITN project EXPERT<br>
------<br>
<br>
Applications are invited for two salaried 3-year Early Stage
Researcher PhD positions in corpus-based approaches to machine
translation. The positions have been awarded as part of the new
EU FP7 Marie-Curie Initial raining Network EXPERT <br>
(<a moz-do-not-send="true" href="http://expert-itn.eu"
target="_blank">http://expert-itn.eu</a>), concerned with the
exploitation of empirical approaches to machine translation,
including statistical machine translation and example-based
machine translation. <br>
<br>
The EXPERT project puts together researchers from six European
universities (The University of Sheffield, Universidad de
Malaga, Universitaet des Saarlandes, Dublin City University,
Universiteit van Amesterdam, and University of Wolverhampton)
and five translation services and technology providers
(Pangeanic, Hermes and Translated, Celer Soluciones and
WordFast).<br>
<br>
The two projects allocated to Dublin City University are: <br>
(i) the investigation of how individual corpus-based
translation approaches (TM, EBMT and SMT) can benefit from each
other; and<br>
(ii) investigation of the ideal infra-structure for a
computer-aided translation: a pipeline with NLP tools for
pre/post-processing, SMT, EBMT and TM techniques which can form
the basis of a hybrid CAT tool. <br>
<br>
<font>The work in both projects will focus on truly hybrid
data-driven approaches to MT, in order to ultimately help
facilitate the work of human translators. The research will be
conducted as part of the MT group at the National Centre for
Language Technology (NCLT) (<a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://www.nclt.dcu.ie/mt/" target="_blank">http://www.nclt.dcu.ie/mt/</a>)
and the Centre for Next Generation Localisation (CNGL) (<a
moz-do-not-send="true" href="http://www.cngl.ie"
target="_blank">http://www.cngl.ie</a>) in Dublin City
University, with opportunities for collaborative work with
several of the leading universities and industrial partners in
EXPERT, and with the expectation of a 6-month secondment to
2-3 partners in this project. The teams location at DCU, just
minutes from Dublin city centre, offers a conducive
environment to research, collaboration and innovation with a
wealth of amenities on campus, including restaurants, the
state-of-the-art University Sports Complex and swimming pool
and the Helix, one of Irelands most impressive arts venues
with three separate auditoria.</font></span><span
