<div><br></div><div>SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS</div><div>*NB: ENLG submissions have been moved to the START system*</div><div><br></div><div>1. ENLG 2013</div><div>-------------</div><div>Natural Language Generation (NLG) is a subfield of Natural Language Processing that focuses on</div>
<div>the derivation of coherent text or speech from some underlying non-linguistic representation of </div><div>information, such as databases or knowledge sources. Over the past several years, NLG has </div><div>developed into a thriving area, with numerous applications which have both theoretical and </div>
<div>practical interest. Contemporary work in NLG ranges from a focus on specific tasks, such as </div><div>linguistic realisation of semantic forms and the generation of referring expressions, to complete </div><div>solutions, ranging from data-to-text systems which summarise raw numerical datasets to the </div>
<div>embedding of NLG components in multimedia and hypertext environments, or interactive </div><div>systems. Recent work has also evinced interest in topics such as the handling of uncertainty in </div><div>input data and its implications for the resulting text, the generation of coherent narrative text, and </div>
<div>the handling of time. In keeping with developments in NLP more generally, these topics are being </div><div>approached using a variety of techniques, from traditional, rule-based approaches to data-driven </div><div>
ones where machine learning and statistical modelling play a central role.</div><div><br></div><div>Given its focus on the generation of text or speech, the field of NLG has clear links to other areas </div><div>of NLP, such as Automatic Summarisation, Machine Translation, and Dialogue Systems.</div>
<div><br></div><div>The ENLG 2013 workshop forms part of a biennial series of workshops on natural language </div><div>generation that has been running since 1987, providing a regular forum for presentation of </div><div>
research in this area, both for NLG specialists and for researchers from related areas. ENLG is </div><div>endorsed by the ACL Special Interest Group on Generation (SIGGEN). The 2013 edition will take </div><div>place as an ACL workshop in Sofia, Bulgaria. It will continue the tradition of ENLG workshops, </div>
<div>but also seeks to enhance the ties between the NLG community and related communities. For </div><div>this edition, we especially invite submissions in areas dealing with NLG and summarisation.</div><div><br></div><div>
<br></div><div>2. Call for papers and demos</div><div>------------------------------</div><div>ENLG 2013 invites substantial, original, and unpublished submissions on all topics related to natural language generation. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: </div>
<div><br></div><div>- Affective / emotional generation</div><div>- Content and text planning</div><div>- Generation for embodied agents and robots</div><div>- Evaluation of NLG systems</div><div>- Data-to-text generation</div>
<div>- Lexicalisation</div><div>- Multimedia or multimodal generation</div><div>- Story-telling and narrative generation</div><div>- NLG for real-world applications</div><div>- NLG in linguistically motivated frameworks</div>
<div>- Personalization and personality of text</div><div>- Psycholinguistics and NLG</div><div>- Referring expression generation</div><div>- Surface realization</div><div>- Machine learning approaches to NLG tasks</div><div>
- Text-to-text generation and summarisation</div><div>- NLG techniques for paraphrase generation</div><div>- NLG techniques for abstractive summarisation</div><div><br></div><div>This year, we also invite submissions for system demonstrations. Demo papers should describe</div>
<div>implemented systems, which will be presented during demo sessions throughout the duration of </div><div>the workshop.</div><div><br></div><div>3. Papers and formats</div><div>-------------------------</div><div>ENLG has three submission categories, long and short papers, and demo papers:</div>
<div>- Long papers are most appropriate for presenting substantial research results and must not </div><div>exceed eight (8) pages of content, with up to two additional pages for references (these will be orally presented);</div>
<div>- Short papers are more appropriate for presenting an ongoing research effort and must not </div><div>exceed four (4) pages, including references (these will be presented as posters during the poster </div><div>session).</div>
<div>- Demo papers should be no more than two pages in length, including references, and should </div><div>describe implemented systems which are of relevance to the NLG community. Demo papers will </div><div>be included in the proceedings. Authors of demo papers should be willing to present a demo of </div>
<div>their system during ENLG 2013.<br></div><div><br></div><div>The only accepted format for submitted papers is Adobe PDF. Submissions should follow the </div><div>two-column format of ACL proceedings. Use of the ACL style files (available from </div>
<div><a href="http://acl2013.org/site/call.html">http://acl2013.org/site/call.html</a>) is strongly recommended. Reviewing will be blind, so you should </div><div>avoid identifying the authors within the paper.</div><div>
<br></div><div>4. Submission instructions:</div><div>----------------------------</div><div>Submissions should be uploaded to the START2 website for the workshop (<a href="https://www.softconf.com/acl2013/ENLG2013/">https://www.softconf.com/acl2013/ENLG2013/</a>). </div>
