We're recruiting top PhD students working at the intersection of
Machine Learning and Computational Linguistics to join our group at
Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia.<br>
<br>
Example research topics include:<br>
<ul>
<li>syntactic and semantic parsing of text or speech, especially
models which can be integrated with speech recognition or
information extraction</li>
<li>generalisations of topic models to novel kinds of data (e.g.,
financial data), or which are capable of learning sequential or
hierarchical structure <br>
</li>
<li>computational models of language acquisition, especially those
that rely on non-parametric Bayesian methods</li>
<li>machine learning and computational neurolinguistics, which
applies computational linguistics and machine learning to
predict brain responses during language comprehension<br>
</li>
</ul>
Successful candidates will need the following skills:<br>
<ul>
<li>strong mathematical background in multivariate calculus and
linear algebra</li>
<li>native or near-native proficiency in English</li>
<li>good programming skills</li>
<li>one or more publications on a related topic<br>
</li>
</ul>
