We are pleased to announce the release of WebAnno 1.0.0<br>
<br>
WebAnno is a general purpose distributed and web-based annotation tool for<br>
a wide range of linguistic annotations.<br>
WebAnno offers annotation project management, freely configurable tagsets<br>
and the management of users in different roles.<br>
WebAnno uses technology from the brat rapid annotation tool for visualizing<br>
annotations in a web browser.<br>
It supports annotation and visualization of arbitrarily large documents,<br>
pluggable import/export filters,<br>
the curation of annotations across various users, correcting automatically<br>
annotated documents,<br>
quality and monitoring, and farming out annotations to a crowdsourcing<br>
platform.<br>
Currently, WebAnno allows POS, Named Entity, Lemma, Dependency Parsing and<br>
co-reference resolution annotations.<br>
The architecture design allows to add additional modes of visualization and<br>
editing, when new kinds of annotations are to be supported.<br>

Phase two of WebAnno is in progress with the following main requirements<br>
*    Free/unrestricted annotation layers<br>
*    Automatic annotation using active learning technique<br>
*    File type validation while importing<br>
*    Multiple file format import/export<br>
*    Replace the annotation dialog with menu structure<br>
*     And Many more<br>

WebAnno is already open-source and hosted in Google code (<br>
<a href="http://webanno.googlecode.com" target="_blank">http://webanno.googlecode.com</a>)<div id=":6gx">.<br>
To try WebAnno with out application server and database configuration, try<br>
the standalone version (Java is required) from here (<br>
