<div class="column"><p><font face="Calibri,Bold"><span style="font-size: 15px;"><b>Jena University Language & Information Engineering (JULIE) Lab</b> at Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena (Germany) invites applications for a 3-year fixed-term contracted, full-time <b>PostDoc</b> position (German pay-scale TV-L 13, with possible extension based on performance evaluation) in the area of</span></font></p><p><font face="Calibri,Bold"><span style="font-size: 15px;"><b>”Semantic Modeling and Text Analytics for the Life Sciences“</b></span></font></p><p><font face="Calibri,Bold"><span style="font-size: 15px;">This position constitutes part of our involvement in the prestigious DFG-funded (Deutsche For- schungsgemeinschaft) Collaborative Research Center (Sonderforschungsbereich) <b>AquaDiva – “Understanding the Links between Surface and Subsurface Biogeosphere” (SFB 1076) </b>and offers exciting opportunities for internationally highly visible research activities. The following areas of work are expected to be covered by the successful applicant for the PostDoc position:</span></font></p><p><ul class="MailOutline"><li><span style="font-size: 15px; font-family: Calibri, Bold;">Development and maintenance of </span><b style="font-size: 15px; font-family: Calibri, Bold;">ontologies and terminologies</b><span style="font-size: 15px; font-family: Calibri, Bold;"> in various branches of the natural sciences (biology, chemistry, ecology and geology, in particular).</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 15px; font-family: Calibri, Bold;">Use of </span><b style="font-size: 15px; font-family: Calibri, Bold;">semantic technologies</b><span style="font-size: 15px; font-family: Calibri, Bold;"> for ontology engineering and terminology management; this requires solid acquaintance with Web-oriented knowledge representation languages (such as OWL) and associated inference engines (such as RACER, PELLET or FaCT) as well as knowledge base editors (such as PROTÉGÉ), annotation languages (based on XML) and technologies supporting RDF/S structures.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 15px; font-family: Calibri, Bold;">Integration of well-engineered ontological and terminological knowledge into </span><b style="font-size: 15px; font-family: Calibri, Bold;">text analytics</b><span style="font-size: 15px; font-family: Calibri, Bold;"> pipelines for semantic search, information extraction, text mining and text classification under continuous development at JULIE Lab.</span></li></ul></p><p><font face="Calibri,Bold"><span style="font-size: 15px;">Applications are welcome from graduates with a sound education background in theoretical approaches and practical experience in semantic technologies (ontologies, Semantic Web tech- niques). This expertise is typically acquired from studies in computer science (informatics) or those with a strong computational backing (such as computational linguistics, bio- or chemoinformatics).
