Computer attracts</span></b><span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:rgb(31,73,125)">
a unique amalgam of researchers, developers and users. It brings
together academics involved in language technology research and
in teaching translation and terminology with those who develop
and market tools for language transformation and both of these
groups with users: translators, terminologists, interpreters,
and voice-over specialists, whether freelancers or working in
translation departments of large organisations such as those of
the European Parliament, European courts and the European Patent
Office, the United Nations family, international companies and
other organisations, and Language Services Providers (LSPs),
large and small. <br>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:rgb(31,73,125)">First
the Computer, then the Internet and more recently the Cloud, are
changing and remodelling expectations and processes in the
Language and Localization industries. These changes are
accompanied by new requirements for standards and
interoperability. The digital age is modifying the concept of
text and quality. Content is a key item together with strings,
chunks, segments and words.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:rgb(31,73,125)">In
its
36th session <b>Translating and the Computer</b> has moved from
ASLIB to <b>ASLING</b>. The conference often referred to as the
“ASLIB Conference” is now the <b>ASLING Translating and the
Computer Conference.</b></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:rgb(31,73,125)">ASLING</span></b><span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:rgb(31,73,125)"> is working hard to
ensure that this conference remains a key date in your calendar
to help you keep in touch. To do this we need the support and
contributions of all those who are interested in sharing their
knowledge and ideas on the latest developments in an extremely
stimulating sector, and equally interested in hearing other
contributions. If you, or one of your colleagues, have something
important to announce or discuss, we urge you to consider
presenting a paper at this conference. </span></p>
