<p class="MsoNormal">The College of Graduate Studies of the University of South
Africa (Unisa) is inviting outstanding candidates for Postdoctoral Researcher
positions in the fields of natural language processing , computational
linguistics, and semantic computing to collaborate in a project on Sustainable
Multilingualism in the South African Context. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The candidate should have a doctoral degree in computer
science or a related discipline, with specialisation in any one of the
following or closely related fields: natural language processing (NLP) ,
computational linguistics, corpus linguistics, machine learning, or semantic
computing. Specific specialisation in any one of the following broad topics
will be advantageous:</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">•
Experience in the use of functional programming in NLP applications and
computational grammar development, specifically in GF (Grammatical Framework);</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">•
The successful development and application of language resources and
computational techniques for under-resourced languages;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">•
Experience in using Linked Data and natural language technologies towards
building the multilingual Semantic Web.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">•
Knowledge of an African language.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The successful candidates will be expected to collaborate in
an interdisciplinary environment where the focus is on research, development
and deployment of computational approaches towards sustainable multilingualism
in the South African context. The candidates will form part of a small team of
researchers involved in innovative work towards realising multilingual support
for ten of the eleven official languages of South Africa. The expectation is
that the candidate’s work would increase the international reputation of the
research group and the institution through world-class research, publications
and applications through collaborations with team members and other
researchers, as appropriate, and that it would also contribute towards the
increased success of master’s and doctoral research at Unisa.</p>
