Liebe FreundInnen und KollegInnen, 
unsere Gespräche über gemeinsame Forschungsprojekte und die
Möglichkeiten ihrer Realisierung endeten zunächst mit einer resignativen
Einsicht, dass Forschung in der europäischen und nationalstaatlichen
Politik zunehmend an Bedeutung verliert. Wir sind jedoch der
Überzeugung, dass ForscherInnen in Europa nicht nur klagen, sondern
handeln müssen. Aus dieser Einsicht ist das European Humanities Manifest
entstanden, das wir Ihnen/Dir hiermit übersenden. Wir bitten Sie/Dich um
kritische Stellungnahme (bis Anfang April) und Unterstützung. Wir werden
die Kritik in der Revision des Manifestes berücksichtigen und die
revidierte Version mit Ihren/Euren Unterschriften vor allem in den
elektronischen Medien veröffentlichen.

Dear friends and colleagues,
our discussions about joint research endeavors and their realization
frequently ended with the rather resignative insight that research in
the humanities and social sciences finds less and less support in the EU
and the European nation states. At the same time, we came to the
conclusion that European researcher should not just bemoan the times
past, but that they need to act. From this insight into the need for
action has resulted the European Humanities Manifest, which we
communicate as an attached document. We would like to ask you for
critical remarks (until the beginning of April) and for your
endorsement. We will consider your critical assessment for the revision
of the document. In its revised version and together with the signatures
of the supporters, this document will be published above all in
electronic media in order to start a more public debate.

Cher(e)s ami(e)s et collègues,

Nos discussions sur des projets de recherche communs et sur les
possibilités de les mettre en oeuvre se sont souvent terminées par le
constat résigné que le poids de la recherche diminue de plus en plus
dans les politiques des États européens et de l'Union Européenne. Nous
sommes d'avis que les chercheurs ne doivent pas seulement se plaindre
mais aussi agir. Ainsi est né le Manifeste Européen pour les Sciences
Humaines et Sociales, que nous vous faisons parvenir aujourd'hui. Nous
vous serions gré de toute remarque critique que vous pourriez formuler
(jusqu'au début du mois d'avril) et espérons votre soutien. Nous
prendrons en compte les remarques critiques qui nous auront été
transmises pour réviser ce manifeste et diffuserons la version révisée
avec vos signatures avant tout par voie électronique.
