<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Hi there:</FONT></DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I recently joined the critics-list, and this is to
introduce myself. I'm teaching discourse analysis and sociolinguistics at the
University of Sydney, Australia, and have research interests in the language of
advertising (my PhD was on American automobile names and how they construct an
identity for the product and how consumers wind up perceiving cars as animate
and human) and bilingualism and gender. I'm currently working on a corpus of
private conversations by bilingual, binational couples, and how these
bordercrossers position themselves vis-à-vis hegemonic ideologies that continue
to rely on essentialist notions of nationality, native-speaker-status etc. Some
of this will be published later this year in a co-edited volume </FONT></DIV>
