The purpose of this conference is to create a forum in Spain for
educational research from an ethnographic perspective. As it is the first
meeting of this kind in Spain, the conference does not have any
particular theme and invites papers on all topics of ethnographic
educational research. However, the scientific committee of the conference
will favor two kinds of presentations. First, work that addresses
theoretical and methodological problems involved in ethnographic
research, especially papers that advance an interdisciplinary approach to
these matters. Second, papers that present results from ethnographic
studies of educational processes from kindergarten to higher education
and in formal and non-formal settings. <br><br>
Some of the topics that could be addressed in this meeting are, among
others, power and authority relations in schools, cultural and
communiticative conflicts in intercultural settings, family-school
relationships, school failiure, social contexts and schools, community
and non-formal educational settings, peer socialization, cognition and
literacy as socio-cultural practices, relationships between work and
education, etc. <br><br>
<div align="center"><b>Format<br><br>

The meeting will be organized around groups of three or four oral
presentations on related topics. To facilitate debate each panel will
have a discussant who will be in charge of commenting the papers and
opening the floor for comment. The organizing committee will be in charge
of grouping the papers and asigning adequate discussants. A typical
format for a session will be: successive 20 minute presentations with 5
minutes for questions and a final 30-45 minutes for commentary and
general debate.<br><br>
<u>Submission of proposals:<br>
</u> <br>
Authors interested in presenting a paper should sumbmitt a brief but
complete (e.g. introduction, methods, results and discussion) report of
their work with a maximum extension of 2000 words. Reviews will be
anonimous, therefore, authors should include a cover page with the title
of the proposal, authorship and all contact information and eliminate
from the main text all identifying information. Communications can be
submitted in Spanish, Catalonian, Galizan, Portugese, French and English.
The principal language of the conference will be Spanish but authors may
present communications in any of the above languages, and multilingual
communication will be tolerated and encouraged. In the case of authors
who will not present in Spanish it is strongly encouraged that they
prepare support materials (hand-outs, overhead projector sheets, etc.) in
either Spanish or English - the organizing committe can provide some

Talavera de la Reina is a historical city located in mid-west Spain about
120 km. from Madrid. It has good road and train connections with Madrid
and other historical cities such as Toledo and Mérida. It also allows
easy access to Portugal and the highway to Lisbon. In the future we
expect to provide information regarding registration fees, lodging and
