Today, November 25, is the day we sadly and furiously emphasize not to
forget the persistent and ubiquitous violence against women. <br>
<br>
In Spain, during this year, more than 60 women have been assassinated,
and many tens of thousands physically and psychologically harassed, by
their (ex) partners. The same is true virtually everywhere else in the
world. <br>
<br>
If the concept of "terror" is easily used and abused after 9/11, the
number of women being victims or survivors of violence would
undoubtedly legitimate the application of this term when it comes to
sexist violence and power abuse against women. <br>
<br>
CRITICS-L is mainly about text and talk. Violence against women is
obviously not just discursive, although we should not underestimate the
effects of the violence of words in the everyday aggression against
women. Moreover, sexist behavior is also learned and legitimated in
daily conversations among men, as well as in many forms of public
discourse. <br>
<br>
As critical discourse analysts it is not only our duty to politically
and socially denounce violence against women, but also to contribute to
the struggle against it by detailed study of its discursive
reproduction. There is a scandalous lack of discourse analytical
research on this important topic. Think about it when you decide on
your next project or when suggesting research topics to students.<br>
