<DIV>began to work on my doctoral dissertation wich is about the press</DIV>
<DIV>discourse in the Transition period between the Franco's dictatorship</DIV>
<DIV>and the Democracy in Spain.</DIV>

<DIV>My aim is to understand the process in the construction of a new</DIV>
<DIV>order. What remains and what change in the definition of Spain as a</DIV>
<DIV>identity. The press has a special role in this period because it's a</DIV>
<DIV>great mind's teacher and a great focus of liberty at the same time.</DIV>
<DIV>I'm interested on how, although the wide differences between all the</DIV>
<DIV>partys, there is a point in wich all they are agree so politics modify</DIV>
<DIV>the discourse and the press create an apropiate enviroment to make it</DIV>
<DIV>possible.</DIV>

<DIV>In 1991 I started preparing a doctoral dissertation on the relationship</DIV>
<DIV>between the discourse of the political elite and that of the press, and</DIV>
<DIV>their role in the reproduction of racism. This project deals with the way</DIV>
<DIV>in which government elites and the national press in Italy speak and write</DIV>
<DIV>about immigrants, refugees and racism in their country. It is focused on</DIV>
<DIV>the press representation of problems, entry of illegal immigrants</DIV>
<DIV>and refugees and racist violence in the 1990s. An article analysing the</DIV>
<DIV>first massive production of policy and press discourse on immigration in</DIV>
<DIV>Italy, which examines especially the use of metaphors and stereotypes,</DIV>
<DIV>has been published in Italian in 1991. Please write an e-mail if you would</DIV>
