Dear friends,

For those of who interested in racism and the press, here is another
statement of mine - in the form of 10 short theses - summarizing my
presentation for the ECRI meeting on this topic last year. This meeting
should also be understood against the background of the international
debate about the anti-Mohammed Cartoons published in the Danish
newspaper Jyllands Posten early last year.

The shortness of these theses makes them a bit more polemical than a
longer analysis that would include the usual hedges and qualifications.
It is obviously not stated nor implied that all journalists are
racists. Indeed, many journalists (and the IFJ - International
Federation of Journalists, Brussels) have for years protested against
the same practices. Also, many of the points apply to other forms of
elite discourse as well.

Comments, as always, are welcome.

Best wishes

Teun
