The Discourse Studies section of the Linguistics Department of Tilburg
University has a tenure track job opening for a full time assistant
professor of Discourse Studies (Universitair Docent Tekstwetenschap).

The central research topic of the Discourse Studies section is the
linguistic and cognitive representation of information in text. The
linguistic structures of texts are investigated in relation to the
cognitive representations in producing and understanding
texts. Phenomena in texts are explained in terms of both linguistic
theories and language behavior theories, in particular
psycholinguistic theories. From these two perspectives, research also
addresses the communicative function of text in language use.

Task description

- developing and teaching courses in Discourse Studies to doctoral
  students in the Linguistics Department
- supervising doctoral (MA) theses
- contributing to the supervision of PhD dissertations
- conducting research within the research programme of the
  Discourse Studies section
- as the occasion arises,  conducting contract research or giving
  external advice

Required qualifications

- a linguist with affinity with and experience in experimental
  research on language behaviour, or a researcher in language
  behavior with affinity with and experience in linguistic research
- a completed PhD dissertation on a topic in linguistic or
  language behaviour research relevant to the Discourse Studies section
- good teaching qualities
- research experience as evidenced by national and international
  publications.

In the first year, the emphasis will be on teaching. The starting
point will be an appointment for a fixed trial period, which , if
successful, will be follwed by an appointment for an indefinite period
of time (tenure).  The salary depends on knowledge and experience,
with maximum of Dfl 8429.00 gross per month (scale 12).
