CALL FOR PAPERS-CONFERENCE ON WORKPLACE STUDIES

Friday 27th October 2000, Department of Sociology, Manchester Metropolitan
University in conjuction with the Language Study Group of the British
Sociological Association



The biggest growth area in ethnomethodology and conversation analysis in
recent years has been applied research in the inter-disciplinary fields of
human-computer interaction and computer supported co-operative work
(workplace studies).  This one-day conference will bring together
reseachers in these fields, and offer an opportunity to look critically at
their achievements.  It invites papers on the following themes:

the usefulness of workplace studies

ethnomethodology and conversation analysis as competing or complementary
methodologies

emerging themes and problems

workplace studies and sociological theory


Please send abstracts of 200 words by 31st July to David Calvey, MITER,
Faculty of Humanities and Social Science, Geoffrey Manton Building,
Manchester Metropolitan University, Rosamond St West, Manchester. M15 6LL.

The conference fee will be £10 (£9 for BSA members) including light
refreshments
