The Vassar College Department of Anthropology seeks a linguistically
and culturally trained anthropologist for a new tenure-track position
at the assistant professor level, beginning in August 2003.
Candidates must be able to teach introductory linguistics as well as
a range of courses in cultural and linguistic anthropology.
Preferred research interests include, but are not limited to,
language contact (multilingualism, pidgins and creoles, language
revitalization); language and material culture; politics and
language.  Geographical area open, but a focus in Africa, the
Americas (including the Caribbean), or Asia preferred.  Candidates
should have an active, ethnographically-based research program and a
strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, and should have
completed the Ph.D. by time of appointment.  Applications should
include cover letter, CV, samples of scholarship, names of three
references, and course syllabi if available.  Applications should be
