Hi Cornelia,
I found Jonathon Potter's 'Representing Reality' (1996) really useful for
thinking about how people are described as experts. In particular, what he
calls 'category entitlement' - for example this is not just Samantha Smith,
this is Samantha Smith, the manager of X, well-known for doing Y and with
decades of experience in Z.
Potter has more details about how membership to these categories are 'worked
up' and rebutted, and even a couple of examples from TV ;)
