Call for expressions of interest: Research project into the representation of migrants
Friday 27 April 2012, University of Portsmouth, UK.
This is a call for expressions of interest in a large-scale research project investigating the representation of migrants in the news media in a range of countries, focussing in particular on:
· the extent to which migrants who are ‘foregrounded’ in the news media are constructed in discursively similar ways in different countries
· the discourse representation of such migrants and the destination country in the media of their country of emigration
· the extent to which discursive constructions of migrants from a given country are shared or arbitrary in the media from a range of countries
· the representation of languages in relation to the discursive struggle over national identities
In order to identify future partners for the project we will be hosting a research meeting and colleagues who would be interested in participating are invited to send a short description of their research interests explaining how they would relate to the project.
We have funding available to cover accommodation and meals for invited participants.
For more information or to express your interest in participating, please contact charlotte.taylor at port.ac.uk or mario.saraceni at port.ac.uk
