<P><span class="letter">I am a Phd Student with the Graduate School of Business
at Curtin University of Technology in Western Australia, and my supervisor is
Professor Alma Whiteley.</span></P>
<P><span class="letter">I am interested in improving working relationships in
organisations. I am particularly interested in conversations between members
of organisations.</span></P>
<P><span class="letter">The objective of this study is to help enterprises in
improving worker-manager relationships. You will be asked to respond to two
statements and give a brief explanation why you chose that response.</span></P>
<P><span class="letter">As always, any communication between the participants
and myself, involved in this research project will remain strictly confidential,
and all subjects will remain anonymous throughout the study.</span></P>
<P><span class="letter">I will be delighted to send you a summary report of the
research, should you request one.</span></P>

<P><font size="3">A recent pilot study has shown that when a subject was asked
to complete the following statement:<br>
<b>"my work organisation is like........................",</b></font></P>
<P><font size="3">The responses ranged from:<br>
<b>"My work organisation is like a military unit" – it has officers,
tactics, ranks, objectives, promotions, sales campaigns,</b><br>
to<br>
<b>"My work organisation is like a second hand car" – when you buy
it looks great, but really inside it is a ‘lemon’.</b></font></P>
<P><font size="3">There are many ways in which you can describe your work organisation
using another object to compare it with.</font></P>
