Literacy and Script

There is a brief discussion of the difference in acquiring syllabic,
alphabetic and logographic scripts (first language literacy) in sections
of: Goswami, U and Bryant, (1990) "Phonological Skills and Learning to
Read". Lawrence Erlbaum Associates, Hillsdale.
Some of the references may provide other leads.

There are also references to different scripts and learning to read in:
Gombert, JE (1992)"Metalinguistic Development". Harvester Wheatsheaf,
New York.
