Assistant Professor in Second Language Education

Applications are invited for a tenure-stream position at the rank of
Assistant Professor in Second Language Education at the Ontario Institute
for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto (OISE/UT). The
appointment will be made in the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and
Learning, which offers graduate programs in Curriculum and Second Language
Education, as well as teacher education programs in the Bachelor of
Education and Master of Teaching formats.

Successful candidates will possess: a doctoral degree; extensive
educational experience related to ESL/EFL teaching; Oral Communication and
ESL/EFL Pedagogy;  a distinctive research and publications record and an
ongoing program of research in Discourse Analysis. Applicants whose
research is relevant to issues of cultural and linguistic diversity are
encouraged to apply. Proficiency in French and in another international
language would be an asset.

Responsibilities include: teaching graduate courses; supervising master’s
and doctoral theses; teaching in the teacher education program; and
carrying out research related to OISE/UT’s Modern Language Centre. Salary

of Education and Master of Teaching formats.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:  a
doctoral degree; a strong program of international comparative research
and publication on teaching and/or curriculum in the developing world; and
a successful record of teaching experience.  One or more of the following
qualifications would be an asset: elementary or secondary school teaching;
research relevant to matters of gender, linguistic and/or ethno-cultural
diversity; proficiency in international languages, and research
methodology.

Responsibilities of the position will include: teaching graduate courses;

educational experience related to elementary literacy learning,
instruction and assessment; a distinctive research and publications record
and an ongoing program of research in one or more of the following areas:
sociocultural dimensions of reading and writing, reading and writing
difficulties, children’s reading and writing development, multiliteracies,
or reading and writing assessment.

Responsibilities will include: teaching graduate courses and supervising

appointment will be made in the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and
Learning, which offers graduate programs in Curriculum and  Second

of Education and Master of Teaching formats.

The successful candidate will: possess a doctoral degree; have expertise
in mathematics education at either the secondary or elementary school
level; be knowledgeable about the education of teachers;  have a strong
commitment to initial teacher education, the continuing professional
development of teachers, and graduate education and research. A
well-developed, distinctive research program, or the demonstrated ability
to develop one, is essential. Applicants should also have: an excellent
record of teaching in elementary or secondary schools or other comparable
expertise; a broad understanding of curriculum, teaching and learning; and
an ability to work in cross-disciplinary teams.  A background in special
education would be an asset.

methodology;  a program of research which studies and/or applies research
methodology and educational assessment to matters relevant to curriculum
studies.

master’s and doctoral theses in quantitative and/or mixed method designs,
and quantitative and qualitative data analysis;  teaching student
assessment in the teacher education  program; and carrying out inquiry in
research methodology,  educational assessment,  and curriculum studies.
