Description:
The Department of TESOL & Applied Linguistics in the School of
Intercultural Studies at Biola University (www.biola.edu/academics/sics)
invites applications for a full-time tenure track position beginning
August 2005.  The Department of TESOL & Applied Linguistics has two
tracks—TESOL, which prepares ESL/EFL teachers, and Applied Linguistics,
which prepares people for other AL professions.  This position is
primarily in the AL track, but could also carry some responsibility for
TESOL-related courses.

Required:
--PhD in Applied Linguistics or closely related field.
--Ability to teach in several areas of applied linguistics as noted below.
--Compatibility with Biola’s institutional identity (see below).
--Commitment to excellence in teaching and professional growth.
--Relevant international experience.
Preferred:
--Higher education teaching experience, experience in the training of
applied linguistics practitioners.
--Experience in higher education administration; experience in distance
learning.

Responsibilities:
-- Teach graduate classes in second language acquisition and applied
linguistics.
-- Teach electives such as discourse analysis, lexicography, language
survey, and communication disorders.
-- Possibly teach undergraduate/graduate classes in general linguistics,
phonetics, phonology, syntax, and semantics & pragmatics.
-- Supervise MA theses.
-- Participate in general faculty responsibilities including active
departmental participation, advising, mentoring students, and committee
work.

Biola University:
