The Department of Elementary and Bilingual Education is a dynamic department
with an outstanding faculty. Credential and master’s programs have achieved
regional and national recognition for excellence and are NCATE accredited. The
department is seeking enthusiastic and committed individuals to teach in the
elementary credential and master’s programs.

Position
Responsibilities include teaching elementary (K-8) credential courses and
master’s level courses. All credential coursework focuses on the preparation
of teachers for linguistically and culturally diverse students. Field
supervision in multicultural urban environments is a standard component with
the expectation of a strong commitment to field-based involvement. Some off-
campus instruction at the El Toro campus and possibly at school sites is
expected. Student advisement, scholarly research and publishing, and service
are also important components of the position.
Qualifications
•	Earned doctorate in a field related to elementary education. ABD
candidates may be considered
•	Demonstrated potential for scholarly and creative activity in the
field of diversity in educational contexts
•	K-8 teaching of all content areas with minimum of three years
classroom experience.
•	 Teaching experience in Spanish/English bilingual settings desirable
•	Expertise and experience in multicultural education and teaching
strategies for English language learners, specifically English language
development (ELD) and specially designed academic instruction in English
(SDAIE)

Appointment Date
August 2006

Rank and Salary
The position will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure-track. Salary
is highly competitive and commensurate to rank, experience, and
qualifications.
Salary is subject to budgetary authorization and any California State
University System faculty contract increases. Additional teaching in summer
and intersession is often available. An excellent comprehensive benefits
