Meeting Description:

The 5th Annual Conference of the Japan Second Language Association will be held
at Kwansei Gakuin University on May 14 and 15, 2005. The plenary Speakers are
Bonnie D. Schwartz (University of Hawaii at Manoa) and J-John Matthews & Cynthia
Brown (Shizuoka University).

Abstracts for papers are invited on any theoretical and empirical studies in
SLA.?Abstracts are welcomed for 30 minute talks or poster sessions on any aspect
of second language acquisition. Individual papers will be allotted 45 minutes
(30 minutes of presentation followed by 15 minutes of discussion).

[Abstract Submission Procedure]
By E-mail:
Please paste the abstract (1600 characters in Japanese or 1000 words in English)
into the message window of your e-mail client or an attachiment file and write
''J-SLA Abstract Submission'' in the subject line. Please give the title of the
paper, your name, affiliation, address, telephone number, fax number, e-mail
address, and type of proposal (paper or poster) as a list at the end of the
message. Please note at the bottom of the abstract (before the list) whether you
are willing to participate in the poster session if your paper is not accepted.

By Post:
Please submit five copies of your abstract (1600 characters in Japanese or 1000
words in English printed on A4). On a separate sheet of A4 paper, please give
the title of the paper, your name, affiliation, address, telephone number, fax
number, e-mail address, and type of proposal (paper or poster). Please note at
the bottom of the abstract whether you are willing to participate in the poster
session if your paper is not accepted. Please send the documents (five copies
of the abstract and one information sheet) to:

[Notices regarding Abstract Submission]
(1) Figures and tables are not counted as part of the word limit, but should be
integrated into the abstract so that the abstract does not exceed two pages of
A4 paper.

(2) Please give the title of the abstract at the top and the number of words at
the bottom.

(3) Please do not put the name of the presenter on the abstract.

(4) Upon acceptance of the abstract, presenters will be asked to prepare a short
version of the abstract for publication in the program. Please prepare a short
version of the abstract (no more than 300 characters in Japanese or 100 words in
English) and include it with the proposal on a separate sheet of A4 paper or at
the bottom of the e-mail message.

[General Notices]
(1) All presenters must be members of J-SLA at the time of the conference. (It
is not necessary for co-presenters to be members.)

(3) No financial support for transportation and accommodation will be offered.

(4) The language of presentations may be either Japanese or English.
