By way of ILR...

Participate in SLA reseach AND learn Arabic

Immediate Interesting Research Opportunity (plus a chance to learn Arabic!)
CASL is looking for up to three researchers with MA-level training in second
language acquisition to be participant observers in the evaluation of a
short-term Arabic course. Other requirements are to be a U.S. citizen, not
to know any Arabic, and to be able to go to the research site in North
Carolina. The researchers would need to be in Jacksonville, NC from Sept 13
through Oct 11, 2005, and would take Arabic five days per week, 8 hours per
day, plus do homework and make research observations in the evenings. There
would be some study required on weekends, but also some free time. CASL
plans to try to rent an apartment and car for the researchers, and the area
nearby is quite nice (seaside resort and retirement communities within 15 -
25 miles easy drive). All expenses will be paid, plus researchers will be
compensated according to experience and training for all hours worked,
including evenings and weekends. Some time would be needed after the
conclusion of the course to assist with analyzing the classroom data (CASL
will be recording the classes) and go through notes. The analysis is quite
flexible, and the time for that extends from end of course through the end
of the 2005 calendar year.
