Languages of the wider world - centre of excellence in teaching and learning

£25,316 - £32,136 p.a pro rata inclusive of London Allowance
Vacancy No: 100123

The Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning Languages of the Wider World
(LWW CETL) is a collaboration between the School of Oriental and African
Studies (SOAS) and University College London (UCL). The Centre promotes and
supports excellence in the teaching and learning of languages that are not
widely taught in the UK: such as the languages of the Middle East, Africa,
Asia, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and Russia.

LWW CETL wishes to appoint a dynamic individual to assist the development and
delivery of electronic learning materials. This will involve the development
and design of virtual and packaged multimedia products, the maintenance of Web-
based information, and providing the accompanying documentation and training.
The post will initially be for a one-year contract and will be based in the
School of Languages at SOAS and will commence in July 2006.

The multimedia developer will play a major role in shaping, creating and
delivering teaching and learning materials across languages of the wider
world. The position will require an energetic team-oriented person with an
ability to elicit ideas from, and communicate concepts to, teachers having
widely differing understandings of technology and its use in language learning
and teaching, and an ability to act as interface between pedagogy and
programming.

Applicants should have demonstrated skills and experience in the following
areas: multimedia authoring, graphic design, the handling of high quality
audio components; website development; delivery systems, good writing and
communication skills. Teaching or training experience and knowledge of one or
more Asian or African language and writing systems will also be an advantage.

CVs will only be accepted when accompanied by an application form. No agencies.

SOAS values diversity and aims to be an equal opportunities employer.
