Early Educational Experiences of Language Minority Children
January 27, 2006
Sheraton Grand Sacramento, California

The National Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing (CRESST),
the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), the University of California, Davis,
School of Education, and the University of California Linguistic Minority Research
Institute (UC-LMRI), are pleased to announce the conference on the Early Educational
Experiences of Language Minority Children, January 27, 2006, at the Sheraton Grand
Sacramento, California.

This conference is the result of a special project on language minority children conducted
by CRESST, with support from NCES, Institute of Education Sciences (IES). The twelve
reports from this project involved authors from varying disciplinary backgrounds,
including well-established educational researchers of language minority and other special
needs students. The reports investigate the educational experiences of language minority
children in pre-kindergarten to third grade, using existing data from the Early Childhood
Longitudinal Study, Kindergarten Class of 1998-1999 (ECLS-K) and the National Household
Education Surveys Program (NHES). This conference is a unique opportunity for the
exceptional panel of authors to share their findings with other educational researchers
and practitioners.
