 TENURE-TRACK PROFESSOR, EDUCATIONAL LINGUISTICS

 The Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania  
 invites applications for a tenure track position in the area of  
 Educational Linguistics. The candidate should have an earned  
 doctorate in educational or applied linguistics or related fields,  
 with expertise in language learning and teaching in national and  
 international contexts, across classrooms, schools, and  
 communities, and research and teaching experience focused on one or  
 more of the following: TESOL/TEFL studies, second language  
 development, bilingualism and biliteracy, and the roles of language  
 and linguistic diversity in educational policy and practice. We are  
 interested in a scholar whose abilities and interests relate to  
 students at both doctoral and master's levels, and who can offer  
 courses, as well as supervise, guide, and conduct research germane  
 to the interests of professional educators and educational  
 researchers. We anticipate that the appointment would be made at  
 the assistant/associate professor level, and will begin in  
 September 2007.

 PRACTICE PROFESSOR: READING/WRITING/LITERACY

 The Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania  
 invites applications for a full-time practice professor position in  
 reading/writing/literacy. The successful candidate has had a  
 distinguished career as a practitioner with experience and  
 expertise in one or more of the following areas: technology-related  
 teaching and learning in literacy; literacy instruction, curriculum  
 and assessment/evaluation; literacy-focused
 professional development, instructional leadership, and school  
 improvement. The Practice Professor will hold a Ph.D. or an Ed.D.  
 in an area directly related to reading, writing and literacy and  
 will teach graduate level courses central to the professional  
 education of master’s and doctoral students in the division;  
 develop and maintain strong relationships with Penn-school- 
 community-based initiatives; initiate and support professional  
 development projects for new and practicing teachers; and play a  
 prominent role in RWL fieldwork across the curriculum. The RWL  
 Practice Professor will also provide intellectual leadership  
 through collaborative work with several current cross-divisional  
 initiatives. Practice Professor positions require a minimum of 20  
 years of experience in the field; Associate Practice Professor  
 requires a minimum of 10 years of experience in the field. Both  
 positions are five-year appointments, renewable up to ten years. We  
 will begin reviewing applications in October 1, 2006 but will  
 continue to consider new applications until the position is filled.
