The 12th Annual Conference of the International Association for World Englishes

October 7-9, 2006 at Chukyo University in Japan

The Extended Call for Papers for IAWE 2006 runs until March 31st, 2006.

Format
Proposals are invited for either paper presentations or panel sessions (see webpage 
submission form requirements).

Conference papers are allotted 20 minutes for presentation, followed by 10 minutes for 
comments and discussion. Panel sessions are likewise 20 minutes per panelist plus 10 
minutes for comment and discussion.



Theme
Theory and Application: World Englishes in World Contexts

A wide range of topics are typically covered at IAWE conferences, including but not 
restricted to the following: 
Diverse disciplinary perspectives on world Englishes, such as anthropological, critical, 
discourse, 'features-based', genre, historical, and sociolinguistic studies 
Various approaches, such as corpus linguistics, contact linguistics, and creolistics and 
world Englishes 
Language planning and politics 
Domains of use, such as English in media and advertising or the classroom among others 
Issues, such as power, ideology, and identity; evaluation, testing, and intelligibility; 
second and foreign language acquisition and pedagogy; bilingual creativity in English 
literatures
