UK Receives Grant to Help Language Education in Schools

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 30, 2006) − The University of Kentucky Department of 
Modern and Classical Languages has received a $143,000 grant to address the 
critical shortage of highly-qualified world language teachers in Kentucky’s 
primary and secondary schools. The grant, titled “Developing and Assessing 
Communicative Competence in the World Language Classroom,” falls under the 
Improving Educator Quality program and is directed by the Kentucky Council on 
Postsecondary Education and supported by federal “No Child Left Behind” funds.
