LITTLE SILVER - The award-winning English Language Learners (ELL) program at
Red Bank Regional High School emphasizes giving students the opportunity for a
future in education.

"Our college incentive program," said RBR Vice Principal Risa
Cullinane, "which allows all ELL seniors to take six credits at Brookdale
Community College, is key to what makes us 'Best Practice.' "

The RBR ELL program was recently honored by the state Department of
Education's Office of Bilingual Education with the "Best Practices" award,
which is given to schools that are designated as model programs.

RBR has a population of about 1,150, with 12 percent of students designated as
bilingual. Ninety-nine percent of those students are Latino, and RBR is
working hard to give the Spanish-speaking population every chance at a
continuing education.
