The Department of Curriculum & Instruction is seeking applicants for six
faculty positions to begin in August 2008. The University is a
comprehensive, urban research university, located in a diverse, rapidly
growing, urban setting, serving approximately 49,000 students, 3,500 of
whom are enrolled within the College of Education. The Department plays
a principal role in a large undergraduate college-wide teacher education
program, in collaboration with other colleges on campus and with local
school districts, which emphasizes the use of instructional technology
and preparation for diverse and challenging instructional settings. The
Department also offers both masters and doctoral-level programs,
encouraging cutting-edge research and multidisciplinary collaboration.

all positions include an earned doctorate in the appropriate area of
specialization, commitment to field-based teacher development,
experience and ability in scholarly research and writing focused on
teacher preparation, and strong interest in the use of instructional

undergraduate and graduate teaching, scholarly research and writing,
obtaining external funding for research and development projects,
student advisement, and service to the department, college, University,

Elementary Language Arts, Assistant Professor
We are seeking an emerging scholar and strong teacher in biliteracy and
second language acquisition to join a language and literacy studies
faculty committed to innovative and socially responsible research,
teaching, and teacher preparation. A minimum of three years elementary
teaching experience is required. Qualifications include experience and
ability in scholarly research and writing focused on teacher
preparation. Candidates with experience in multilingual, multicultural
schools and communities including bilingual/ESL students will receive

Instructional Technology, Assistant Professor
Our internationally recognized Instructional Technology Program is
seeking an active and innovative colleague with an earned doctorate in
instructional/educational technology, learning science, or related
fields. Evidence of a strong research agenda is required. We prefer
candidates with expertise in design of technology-supported learning
environments; instructional systems analysis, design and development;
and/or technology integration in teacher preparation; The department
also encourages instructional technology research that may connect with,
or be grounded in, important educational fields such as math, science,
social studies, language and literacy, early childhood, foreign/second
language, bilingual-cultural studies, and curriculum studies. Our close
relationships with public schools and high tech industries in the Austin
area provide unique opportunities for collaboration and research in
educational gaming, pervasive computing environments, technology
integration, simulation design and online professional development.
Teaching responsibilities include teaching courses in design of
technology-supported learning environments and instructional technology
research, as well as areas of special interest to the candidate.

Bilingual Education, Assistant/Associate Professor
The Bilingual/Bicultural Education Program is seeking an active young
scholar committed to research and teaching at the undergraduate and
graduate levels. Fluency and literacy in Spanish with the ability to
teach in Spanish is required. We are particularly interested in
applicants who have extensive experience with dual language instruction
capable of meeting the needs of second language learners, as well as
teaching bilingual (English/Spanish) biliteracy/language arts or other
subject area methods classes. We seek individuals with experience
working in diverse bilingual settings, especially with bilingual
learners in elementary school classrooms and in support of pre-service
and in-service teachers. Experience teaching in bilingual education

Science and Mathematics Education (2 positions), Assistant/Associate
Professor
We seek two colleagues to join a faculty committed to innovative and
socially responsive research and teaching in graduate and undergraduate
programs in Science and Mathematics Education with strong ties to the
Colleges of Natural Sciences and Engineering. This position offers a
unique combination of opportunities for interdisciplinary inquiry,
design-based research, program development, and impact on schools.
Preferred qualifications include experience working with traditionally
underserved populations, teaching experience in K-12 classrooms, and
teaching experience in a teacher development program. The successful
candidates will join an active Science and Mathematics Education faculty
of eight other tenure-line professors, with research funding from
outside sources totaling more than $12 million. Undergraduate teaching
will include courses in the nationally-acclaimed UTeach secondary math
and science teacher preparation program as well as a science methods
course for pre-service elementary teachers. Professor Susan Empson,

Curriculum Studies, Assistant Professor
We seek an emerging scholar to contribute to graduate and undergraduate
education with a specialization in curriculum. A minimum of three years
teaching experience in a diverse elementary/secondary school setting and
an ability to contribute to the graduate program in curriculum studies
(curriculum, teaching, instruction, and/or learning) in education are
