Primary education under review

 

The first "root-and branch" review of English primary education in a decade will allow greater flexibility in the curriculum and ensure all pupils are taught a foreign language, the Government has pledged.

 

Children and Schools Secretary Ed Balls said some set subjects and "clutter" would be reduced in favour of a greater focus on reading, writing and maths.

 

The proposals come in a 10-year Children's Plan to be unveiled this week which aims to make the school system in England "world class".
