Summer camps will help children speak Irish - Hanafin

The Minister for Education has said that a new series of summer camps will help
600 primary school children learn Irish.
The move is aimed at making Irish more relevant to the students.

Mary Hanafin said the children involved should start to see Irish as a living
language.

"Hundreds of children, this week, in Athlone, Cork, Dublin, Dundalk, Galway,
Wexford and Waterford can have day camps, where they're not only learning the
Irish language, but also using their Irish in sports in drama and music and
art," she said.

The Minister added that a greater emphasis would be put on Irish as a spoken
language in second level schools from this September.
