Position Description:
The Department of Applied Linguistics at Portland State University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Language Education, or a closely related field, with primary specializations in language pedagogy and language testing/assessment, and secondary specializations in culture learning, research design, second language acquisition, or language planning and policy. Other desirable interests include computer assisted language learning, curriculum design or critical applied linguistics. Responsibilities include teaching two courses per term (three terms per year), supervision of thesis research, both quantitative and qualitative, and graduate and undergraduate advising. An active research agenda, establishing and sustaining funded research activities, and ESL/EFL teaching experience are important. We encourage applications from a diverse community !
 of international scholars conducting research inside and outside the United States. 
 
Application Information:
The position will be available beginning Fall 2008. Candidates should submit a letter of application including statement of research and teaching interests, curriculum vitae, representative publications, and names and addresses (including fax and e-mail) of at least three references. Review of applications will begin December 1, 2007. The position will be open until finalists are identified. Candidates should have a Ph.D. or equivalent in hand by August 1, 2008. Supporting materials, such as teaching evaluations, lesson plans, and a philosophy of teaching statement and statement of experience working with students of diverse backgrounds will be requested.  Anticipated starting date: September 16, 2008.

Information about the Department of Applied Linguistics:
The Department of Applied Linguistics offers an undergraduate minor, a BA in Applied Linguistics, a Certificate in TESL, a MA:TESOL degree, and houses the Intensive English Learning Program (IELP).  The program is growing, especially at the graduate level, and is associated with a laboratory school for ESL adult education.
