               FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PROPOSALS

                                             

ORGANIZERS: The Research Group The English Language in University Settings at the University of Seville, Spain, is pleased to announce the 11th ELIA Conference to be held in Seville, Spain, on March 19-20, 2009. 

 

THEME: The main theme for the 2009 conference will be Bilingualism / multilingualism in school settings. As in previous years, renowned international and national scholars in the area of bilingual/multilingual education will be invited to take part in the conference as keynote/plenary speakers.

 

PROPOSALS AND DEADLINE:  Proposals for papers and workshops (40 minutes) that address any dimension of the main theme -from preschool to university settings-- are invited in English or Spanish. Proposals related to English-Spanish/ Spanish-English bilingual institutions will be given preference, but proposals based on other language combinations (including either English or Spanish in them) will also be welcome. Due to the symposium-like structure of the conference, proposals must be related to the the main theme to be accepted. The deadline for submission of abstracts (300-400 words) is December 1, 2008.

 

PUBLICATION:  A selection of the papers presented at the conference will be published in the 9th volume (2009) of the Spanish journal Studies in Applied English Linguistics (ELIA). All oral presenters will be invited to submit revised versions of their papers for possible inclusion.
