The His Hands Reader (HHR) is a new free multi-media computer program designed to help those with reading challenges (such as deafness or dyslexia) in developing countries to learn to read.

All languages are welcome. In just one week native "speaking" volunteers can easily add their own language (text or hand signs) to the 1700 meaning lexicon. See the web site for details. www.GodandDeaf.org/hhr

But what about the many deaf or dyslexic who don't know how to use a computer nor can afford the time in an internet cafe to study?? The HHR reading primers can be distributed in TV ready form on Google video. For example in a country like Afghanistan where the deaf population is 600,000 and the literacy rate is less than 1 percent... primers can be played on local TV for the benefit of both deaf and hearing to expand their site word recognition to beyond 1000+ words. TV literacy... that sounds like a oxymoron! But in cities such as Kabul, Afghanistan where television is ubiquitous in homes the deaf with this approach can practice reading in the privacy of their home while hearing family members become acquainted with the meaning of hand signs and learn to read as well.

Volunteers in Cameroon are the first to be adding their hand signs to the HHR lexicon. Subscribe to the Google Video below to see more primers as language lexicons are added by volunteers.

How about you... do you want to volunteer to add your language? Please sign up to the YahooGroup via the www.GodandDeaf.org/hhr web site and give us your feedback on this project or to lend a hand to add your language.
