Adult ESL Education Specialist


Division/Program: Language and Culture Resources/Center for Adult English Language Acquisition (CAELA) Network <http://www.cal.org/caelanetwork/> 

Time Allocation : 50%, benefits included

Salary: $55-58K, depending upon qualifications

Position Available:  September 8, 2008

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Serve as content specialist for CAL's adult ESL projects

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Adult ESL Product Development and Technical Assistance

Collaborate with adult ESL staff to:

*	Provide technical assistance to states working on professional development and capacity building and to other professionals in the adult ESL field

*	Work with other adult ESL professional staff to

	*	conduct literature searches and write literature syntheses and other research-to-practice papers for adult ESL practitioners

	*	develop new adult ESL projects and materials

	*	develop and deliver workshops for adult ESL practitioners as needed - in person or online

Some travel and evening and weekend work required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Minimum:  M.A. in second language education (TESOL preferred) or related field with a focus on adults

Experience: Minimum five years experience in adult ESL programs as a teacher or program administrator as well as experience training educators, developing educational materials, and giving conference presentations. Non-traditional education/training experience highly desirable. Excellent writing and oral communication skills. Attention to detail. Ability to work effectively both with a team and independently. Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office package and Outlook (or other e-mail program).
