Dear colleagues,
I am the new coordinator of a directed independent language study program at Yale, where students can pursue study of languages that are not regularly offered by the university's academic departments. We have accepted applications for the fall semester for programs in Fijian, Mapuche and Efik/Ibibio but have had considerable difficulty identifying educated native speakers (admittedly, "educated" is a loaded term) to serve as language partners for the students.

If you know of any native speakers of these languages who might be interested in serving as a language partner, we would be very happy to hear from you. Language partners meet with the students for two hours each week (although we can set up a distance learning situation if the language partner has Internet access) and are also paid for 2 hours of preparation time each week. I am happy to provide further details about pay to any interested parties. Language partners are not teachers in the traditional sense of the word and do not need to have any kind of teaching background. Sessions with the language partner would ideally begin the week of September 15th.

Please feel free to contact me at erin.kearney at yale.edu.

Thank you,
Erin
