International Mother Language Day (21 February): A Double Celebration

 

International Mother Language Day 2008 is the occasion of a double celebration as it also marks the launch of the International Year of Languages with the slogan "languages matter!"

Languages are of the utmost importance in achieving the Education for All goals and Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and are an indispensable support for literacy, quality education, learning enhancement and life skills.
