Austrians learning foreign languages outside school

 

Fifteen per cent of Austrians older than 15 have learned one or more foreign languages outside high school or university in the last 10 years, according to new research.

Results of a poll of 2,000 people by the Association of Austrian Adult Education Centres (VÖV) released today (Weds) showed seventeen per cent of women and 13 per cent of men older than 15 have learnt another language in their own time.

Forty-four per cent of those learned English, 19 per cent Italian, 11 per cent Spanish and eight per cent French.
