Not many takers for foreign languages

 

When it comes to foreign languages, Panjab university has a lot to offer but there are few takers for these courses. Except for a few courses like French and German, the dropout rate is very high in other languages including Tibetan, Chinese, Buddhistry and Persian, thus leaving many of the seats vacant. 

Explaining the reason for high dropout rate, reader for Tibetian at PU, VK Singh says, "Initially studying one foreign language was mandatory for all research scholars including those doing MPhil and Phd. But then scholars found it an additional liability so it was made discretionary."
