Latin makes a comeback in primary schools

 

Latin is making a comeback in primary schools as part of a move to introduce youngsters to a broader range of foreign languages.

 

More than 60 state primary schools are teaching the classical language under a scheme aimed at making languages compulsory for all children from the age of seven. 

 

Peter Downes, a former president of the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL), is leading the campaign to persuade ministers of the benefits of teaching the subject.
