Il filosofo, sociologo ed etnologo statunitense Dell Hymes, considerato il fondatore dell'antropologia linguistica, e' morto nella sua casa di Charlottesville, in Virginia, all'eta' di 82 anni. Celebre studioso di folklore e sociolinguistica, Hymes ha svolto fondamentali ricerche specialmente nel nordest del Pacifico durante gli anni Cinquanta.
