Training Specialist - East Asian and Pacific Languages: U.S. Department of State, Foreign Service Institute, School of Language Studies, Arlington, VA

      

The Foreign Service Institute is looking for a few good Training Specialists in the East Asian and Pacific Languages Department.  If you are a U. S. citizen and a native or near-native speaker of an East Asian or Pacific language (Burmese, Cantonese Chinese, Mandarin Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Lao, Malay, Mongolian, Tagalog, Thai, Tibetan, or Vietnamese), you might want to consider a career with the Foreign Service Institute, U.S. Department of State.

	
 

Training Specialists:

Assist in student development, organization of language training programs, and implementation of program objectives. 

 

--Teacher Training and Staff Development

Working in conjunction with the department's Language Training Supervisors, Training Specialists direct the preparation of professional development plans for language training personnel and assume a lead responsibility for teacher development in the department.

 

--Curriculum Development 

Training Specialists provide major substantive input for the planning, design, development and evaluation of the content of language courses and, in consultation with Language Training Supervisors, identify the need for and make recommendations for changes in the curriculum. The Training Specialists take the lead on projects involving the development and revision of language curricula and training materials.

 

--Classroom Instruction

Training Specialists may work as a classroom instructor in teaching speaking, reading, listening comprehension and writing (if required) skills to a full range of students at all levels of language proficiency, including those for whom standard course materials and curricula are not appropriate.

 

The Foreign Service Institute: The Foreign Service Institute is the Federal Government's primary training institution for officers and support personnel of the U.S. foreign affairs community, preparing American diplomats and other professionals to advance U.S. foreign affairs interests overseas and in Washington.

 

Requirements:  

--Must be native or near-native speaker of an East Asian or Pacific language and must have taught that language to adult students in an intensive language training setting. 

--Must be a US citizen.

 

Salary:  $73,100.00 - 95,026.00  This position is 24-month appointment, renewable indefinitely, with benefits.
