PhD in Culture, Literacy, and Language at UT San Antonio

Applications are invited for the the PhD in Culture, Literacy, and Language at the University of Texas at San Antonio, Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies.  The program offers opportunities for doctoral students to pursue research topics within or across three major focal areas:
 
* Applied linguistics
* Bilingual education and biliteracy
* Mexican-American and Latin@ cultures
 
Students work in a vibrant interdisciplinary atmosphere with anthropologists, applied linguists, educators, psychologists, and sociologists on topics related to language and literacy socialization, second language acquisition, educational language policy and planning, language and identity, bilingual teacher preparation, TESOL and globalization, heritage language education, computer assisted language learning, multiliteracies, immigration and transnationalization, among others.
 
The multilingual city of San Antonio, the seventh largest city in the United States, provides an exciting backdrop for the study of issues related to linguistic and cultural diversity.  Students and faculty work closely with local school districts and communities in their work as well as conduct research regionally, nationally, and internationally in countries such as Cambodia, China, Germany, Hungary, Mexico, Nicaragua, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, and The Netherlands.
