Proposal calls for French fluency among new elementary, middle-school teachers in B.C.

 

French fluency would be a prerequisite for new elementary and middle-school teachers under a proposal floated recently by the B.C. College of Teachers to improve second-language learning around the province.

 

Currently, all B.C. students who are not in immersion programs are required to take a second language in Grades 5-8 and most choose French. But they're often taught by someone who is not fluent in the language and has had no training in how to teach it.
