Quebec to amend controversial language law 

 

The Quebec government is creating a breach in the province's controversial language law that, under strict conditions, could eventually allow certain francophone and immigrant students to attend English-language public schools.

 

A bill was tabled on Wednesday to comply with last fall's Supreme Court of Canada ruling that struck down provisions in the language law that prevented francophone and immigrant students - mainly from wealthy families - who attended private, non-subsidized, English-language schools from becoming eligible to transfer to English-language public schools.
