ESRC Scholarship in Education

Further Information
Education at York has been awarded an ESRC Scholarship as part of the
Education cluster of training pathways within the White Rose Doctoral
Training Centre, a major new collaboration between the Universities of
Leeds, Sheffield and York with a total of 48 ESRC studentships per year over
5 years. The White Rose Doctoral Training Centre is one of the largest
consortia in the country and offers a wealth of supervisory expertise across
the social sciences as well as numerous training opportunities, particularly
focused upon maximising the social and economic benefits of your research.
Students will work together with others studying in their discipline from
across Yorkshire and have numerous opportunities to develop their
interdisciplinary networks and expertise. 

Funding
This fully-funded 3-year scholarship will cover maintenance and fees for UK
candidates, or fees only for EU candidates, starting from Autumn 2011. 

Eligibility
The competition is open to UK and EU students who have completed (or expect
to complete by the end of the current academic year) a Masters qualification
in Education or in a related discipline (e.g., Linguistics, Psychology,
Sociology) from an ESRC recognised outlet (list at
http://www.esrc.ac.uk/funding-and-guidance/guidance/postgraduates/eligible-o
utlets.aspx). 

Applications
The deadline for applications for this studentship will be 31 March 2011.
Candidates should apply for a PhD following the instructions on our
departmental website:
http://www.york.ac.uk/education/postgraduate/mphil-phd, including a research
proposal, and specifying that they are applying for the ESRC studentship.
Applications received after the deadline will not be considered for this
scholarship. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for interview. Successful
candidates will be notified by the beginning of June.
