ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF LITERACY

Position:  The Department of Teaching and Learning at Washington State University Pullman campus seeks applicants with research and teaching interests in literacy for a tenure track faculty position. The candidate will have an earned doctorate in literacy education or related field and demonstrated commitment to working with underrepresented, linguistically/culturally-diverse, international, and first generation college students.

Duties and Responsibilities: Conduct scholarly research leading to publication in area of literacy. Pursue extramural funding to support active research agenda. Teach undergraduate, masters, and doctoral literacy courses. Mentor graduate students. Work collaboratively with peers and communities. Engage in service activities at a variety of levels.

Required Qualifications:  Earned doctorate at time of employment in literacy or related field, a demonstrated record of or potential for scholarly productivity, extramural funding, and excellence in teaching. Demonstrated ability to teach literacy in K-12 or college settings.  Commitment to working with underrepresented, linguistically/culturally-diverse, international, and first generation college students.

Desired Qualifications:  Expertise in one or more areas: literacy foundations, literacy pedagogy, literacy assessment and diagnosis, academic language, or critical literacies.
